1-Hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone(Cas 947-19-3) Usage

General Description

1-Hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone is an organic compound characterized by a cyclohexyl group attached to a hydroxyl group (-OH) and a phenyl ketone group. The structure includes a cyclohexane ring, a six-membered saturated carbon ring, with a hydroxyl group directly bonded to one of its carbons, and a phenyl ring connected to a carbonyl group (C=O). This compound is commonly used as a photoinitiator in UV-curable coatings, inks, and adhesives, as it can efficiently absorb UV light and initiate polymerization. Its stability and reactivity under UV radiation make it valuable in industries that require rapid curing processes.
Uses 1-Hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone (1-HCHPK) is a widely used photoinitiator, e.g., in UV-radiation-curable technologies such as 3D-printing, plastic coatings and construction materials.

Quantitation and Human Monocyte Cytotoxicity of the Polymerization Agent 1-Hydroxycyclohexyl Phenyl Ketone (Irgacure 184) from Three Brands of Aqueous Injection Solution

Kazuhiko Yamaji, Yoichi Kawasaki, Kei Yoshitome, Hisashi Matsunaga, Toshiaki Sendo

, Biological and Pharmaceutical Bulletin, 2012 , 35 - 10  p. 1821-1825

In this study, levels of the photoinitiator 1-hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone (1-HCHPK) in aqueous injection solutions were analyzed by GC-MS. In our previous studies, photoinitiators such as 2-methyl-4′-(methylthio)-2-morpholinopropiophenone (MTMP) were detected in intravenous (i.v.) injection bag solution, and they were found to be cytotoxic to human monocytes.

Toxicity of Plastic Additive 1-Hydroxycyclohexyl Phenyl Ketone (1-HCHPK) to Freshwater Microcrustaceans in Natural Water

Irina Blinova *,Aljona Lukjanova,Heiki VijaORCID,Monika MortimerORCID andMargit HeinlaanORCID

, Water 2023, 15(18), 3213;

Further, the long-term exposure of D. magna to low levels of 1-Hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone (1-HCHPK) (0.1 and 1.0 mg/L) did not affect ephippia hatching or organismal fitness, even in three successive daphnid generations. Thus, 1-HCHPK did not pose a hazard to the freshwater microcrustaceans at concentrations < 1 mg/L in the environmentally relevant conditions (i.e., multigenerational life cycle tests conducted in lake water at low chemical exposure concentrations). The tests employed in this study allowed for the environmentally relevant hazard assessment of emerging pollutants such as a plastic additive 1-Hydroxycyclohexyl phenyl ketone (1-HCHPK).
